Compelling Kinetik der Koninua physics.

Suspect ophthalmology.

It's pretty much impossible to visualize vitreous opacities by slit lamp biomicroscopy (method of choice in immediate post WWII) and determine they are copper ... unless you remove them by vitrectomy and analyze them outside the eye. Penetrating 1mm copper projectiles would leave entrance/exit scars through the cornea and crystalline lens. The copper rods would NOT be sterile. "The retention of particles of pure copper within the eye usually causes a severe toxic endophthalmitis, eventually leading to complete ocular destruction." (p.1284, Berliner. Biomicroscopy of the Eye. Vol ii)

So what did Dr. Erggelet observe? Likely it was asteroid hyalosis - benign refractile vitreous opacities (calcium "soaps") seen in ~1 out of 200 patients.

So, do you have the translation of the paper available? (Aerospace engineer here, I love this kind of stuff!)
